Alumni Spotlight: Maggie Frederick

Our alumni spotlight for September is Maggie Frederick. From a young age, Maggie’s passion for athletics was clear, leading her to BlazeSports after being introduced at a meet and greet and first attending summer camp. By 10-years old, Maggie was an active BlazeSports athlete continuing all the way until she graduated high school and headed to the University of Illinois. But her time with Blaze would not be finished quite yet. Maggie retuned to BlazeSports for her internship and would go onto work for BlazeSports early in her career and more recently as one of our track coaches. In 2022, Maggie was part of the inaugural Lady Ballers team, BlazeSports first women’s wheelchair basketball team!

Through BlazeSports, Maggie found her sense of belonging with a group of people who endured similar challenges as her, learning how to be a support system to those around her. Maggie’s advice to parents is “definitely get your kids involved. It’s super important to be around others who look like you, especially when having a disability and Blaze provided me with the community I was missing elsewhere.”

Currently, Maggie works on the Sandy Springs Parks and Recreation team. We are very appreciative of Maggie and all the support she gives to Blaze and we can’t wait to see her continue to play!🔥
