Alumni Spotlight Martinez Johnson

Meet our Alumni Spotlight Martinez Johnson, our Triumph of the Human Spirit award winner for Alumnus of the Year! His journey with BlazeSports began in 2010, when he joined the BlazeSports wheelchair basketball team. After two years of competition, he continued his athletic and academic career at the University of Illinois, where he played collegiate wheelchair basketball and earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees.

Over the past two years, Martinez has given back as a BlazeSports varsity and prep basketball coach, dedicating himself to the development of young athletes. He creates personalized training programs, meets with players to analyze and refine their techniques, and shares valuable insight from his experiences as both a Blaze and collegiate athlete. His coaching goes beyond skill-building—he instills confidence, discipline, and teamwork in every athlete he mentors.

His impact on BlazeSports is undeniable. Martinez’s passion for coaching, commitment to adaptive sports, and ability to connect with athletes make him a true role model. He continues to uplift, inspire, and push boundaries, shaping the next generation of athletes and leaders.

Martinez, we appreciate your dedication and leadership. Your contributions leave a lasting mark on BlazeSports, and we are excited to see you continue thriving both on and off the court. Keep inspiring the future of adaptive sports! 🔥🏀
