USAID Sports for Youth with Disabilities In Uganda Initiative
BlazeSports International Uganda: USAID’s Sports for Youth with Disabilities Initiative is a 36-month sport development and health project in Kampala and Gulu. The project aims to improve physical literacy and increase inclusion for children with physical disabilities in sports and recreation programs. Physical literacy is the ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life. It’s a growing movement linked to better health, chronic condition prevention, and improved physical activity.
Through the BlazeSports International Uganda initiative, children with disabilities gain the opportunity to develop their physical skills. Additionally, the project helps integrate them into community sports programs, fostering inclusion. By promoting physical literacy, BlazeSports is contributing to healthier and more active lifestyles for these youth.
Call To Action
One of the major project deliverables was a Call to Action document that provided key strategies for key sectors/actors within Uganda that can improve access to sport and physical activity for Uganda children and youth with disabilities especially girls. Thank you to all the organizations that contributed to this document especially the Uganda Paralympic Committee.
