BlazeSports International Haiti: Disability Sport Project
In 2015, BlazeSports International, in partnership with the Gérard Pierre-Charles Foundation, launched the “Disability Sport Project in Haiti.” This four-year initiative focused on promoting sports and physical activity programs for people with disabilities.
The project offered comprehensive training to Haitian coaches, program staff, and volunteers, particularly in soccer, with support from the Haitian Paralympic Committee and local disability sport organizations. Additionally, the project aimed to expand sport programs nationwide and create outreach activities in large tent communities, where many people with disabilities live.
BlazeSports International continues its mission of changing lives through sport. It has gained support from the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) to strengthen its global efforts.
The “Disability Sport Project in Haiti” benefited 3,435 children with disabilities, including 36 student-athletes from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Civic Engagement. BlazeSports also trained 312 individuals on strategies to include people with and without physical disabilities in sports.
Furthermore, BlazeSports International provided specialized training for six physical education teachers and coaches in Haiti, helping them enhance their knowledge and skills in adaptive sports.
