Disability Sport Project in Haiti

In 2015, BlazeSports International, in partnership with Gérard Pierre-Charles Foundation, completed a four-year intensive, field-based initiative called the “Disability Sport Project in Haiti.” This aimed to promote development of sport and physical activity programs for people with disabilities.

The project included comprehensive training opportunities for Haitian coaches, program staff, and volunteers with focus on soccer in cooperation with the Haitian Paralympic Committee and local disability sport organizations. Also, the project aimed to increase the number of sport programs across the country and establish outreach and activities in the large tent communities with clusters of people with disabilities

BlazeSports International maintains the mission of changing lives of people with physical disabilities through sport, and has garnered support from the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP).

The “Disability Sport Project in Haiti” benefited 3,435 children with disabilities, 36 of which are student-athletes from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Civic Engagement. BlazeSports also trained 312 individuals on the strategies of inclusion of people with and without physical disabilities in sport activities.

BlazeSports International also provided and adapted training for six physical education teachers and coached in Haiti to grow in knowledge and ability of implementing adaptive sport activities.
