
Peace building through sport

Cairo, Egypt- BlazeSports America and Kennesaw State University provided training and educational sessions in Paralympic sports and exercise science at the 3rd African Academy in Cairo, Egypt in March 2009. The Egyptian Paralympic Committee, the local organizer, ensured the participation of north African and sub-Saharan nations as well as emerging leaders with disability and women from throughout Egypt. The BlazeSports teaching staff included Ann Cody, Dan Humphreys, Jeff Jones, and Fred Lamback.
The week long seminar included wheelchair basketball, swimming, boccia, strength training, and prevention of sports injuries. The program culminated with a sports festival in Alexandria and a competition in Cairo for youth and adults with physical disabilities. Kennesaw State University, Associate Dean Dr. Ben Johnson works closely with universities in Cairo and Alexandria to create collegiate sport opportunities for students with disabilities in Paralympic sports.
